The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in New York considers the relevant law, as well as the record from the trial court. Each spouse files a "brief" stating his or her position. The Appellate Division in New York determines if the lower court's decision should be "affirmed", "reversed" and/or "remanded", or sent back to the trial court for redetermination of specific issues. A successful
